Bulldogs Place Ninth At The Benbow Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Senior Andrew Wegeng and sophomore Logan Holt placed among the "Top 20" individuals and Butler finished ninth in the final team standings at the Don Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by Butler, concluded at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course on Tuesday (March 12).
Wegeng and Holt were part of a five-way tie for 20th place in the final individual standings. Wegeng shot a three-over-par 74 in the opening round on Monday and then finished with a 76 for a two-day total of 150. Holt carded a team-best 73 in the first round and then closed with a 77 to match Wegeng's tournament total.
Freshman Brigham Stewart finished third for the Bulldogs and tied for 34th overall with rounds of 78 and 75 (153), while sophomore Andrew Eiler tied for 75th with rounds of 83 and 85 (168). Senior Colin Reenan rounded out Butler's scoring team with a tie for 79th place. He shot back-to-back rounds of 85 (170).
Matt Vitale, playing as a non-scoring individual, posted rounds of 79 and 85 (164) and tied for 67th. Also playing as a Butler individual was freshman Corbin Sellers, who tied for 73rd place with round of 84 and 83 (167).
Ryan Fricker of Bethune-Cookman won medalist honors in a playoff with Andrew Bailey of Cleveland State. Both players tied for first with 36-hole scores of 141. Alex Turner of Evansville finished third with a 142.
Florida Atlantic captured the team title with a final score of 582, four strokes ahead of Bethune-Cookman. Butler shot rounds of 308 and 313 and finished with a two-day total of 621.
