Butler Finishes 16th At NYX Hoosier Invitational
BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Senior Andrew Wegeng posted his top three scores of the spring season and finished with his top 54-hole total of the year at the NYX Hoosier Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday (April 7). The Bulldogs finished 16th in the three-round tournament, hosted by Indiana University.
Wegeng shot a six-over-par 219 on the 6,813-yard layout at the Indiana University Golf Course. He shot an even-par 71 to open the tournament and then finished with back-to-back rounds of three-over-par 74. His final two rounds matched his previous spring best, set in the first round of the Don Benbow Invitational in Florida.
The Butler scoring leader wound up tied for 20th in the final individual standings. He finished four strokes shy of a "Top 15" finish and six strokes out of a "Top 10" standing.
Senior Colin Reenan came in second for the Bulldogs and tied for 45th overall with rounds of 76, 76 and 74 (226), while freshman Brigham Stewart tied for 73rd with a 54-hole score of 232 (75-81-76). Sophomore Logan Holt carded a three-round total of 233 (79-80-74) and tied for 78th place, while sophomore Andrew Eiler tied for 88th with rounds of 76, 84 and 78 (238).
The Bulldogs posted team totals of 298 in the first and third rounds, but slipped to 311 in the second round. The 54-hole total of 907 was two strokes behind Dayton in 15th place.
Host Indiana claimed the team title with a final score of 850. Andrew Fogg of Indiana won medalist honors with a three-round score of five-under-par 208.
Butler will return to action on Thursday, April 11, at the Big Four Classic at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
