Bulldogs Complete Fall Season
KETTERING, OHIO -- Paced by junior Andrew Eiler and senior Matt Vitale, Butler closed out its fall men's golf season with an eighth place finish at the 2013 Flyer Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Bulldogs missed a "Top 5" team finish in the 16-team event at the NCR Country Club by just seven strokes.
Eiler and Vitale tied for 20th in the tournament with 36-hole scores of six-over-par 146. Eiler carded back-to-back rounds of 73, while Vitale shot a 74 in the opening round and came back with a two-over-par 72.
Freshman Connor Dudley, who paced the Bulldogs on the first day with an even-par 70, wound up in a tie for 39th place, after shooting a 79 in the final round. His two-day score of 149 was two strokes better than teammate Logan Holt, who tied for 55th place with rounds of 76 and 75. Sophomore Logan Mc Bride rounded out Butler's scoring team with a final score of 156 (79-77).
Sophomore Brigham Stewart, playing as a non-scoring individual, posted rounds of 76 and 77 (153) and wound up tied for 66th place.
The Bulldogs shot a team score of 293 on the first day of competition, and then finished with a 297 for a 36-hole score of 590.
Western Kentucky captured the team crown with a 36-hole score of 566, 13 strokes better than runner-up Cleveland State. Andrew Bailey of Cleveland State claimed medalist honors with rounds of 67 and 69 for a total score of four-under-par 136.
The Bulldogs will take a break from competition before resuming play in March with a trio of tournaments in Florida.
