Bulldogs Tie For Eighth At Wildcat Invitational
MALVERN, PA. - Junior Logan Holt and senior Matt Vitale notched "Top 20" individual finishes and Butler wound up tied for eighth in the final team standings at the 2014 Wildcat Invitational, which wrapped up at White Manor Country Club on Tuesday (April 1). Columbia won the 16-team tournament hosted by Villanova.
Holt led the Bulldogs and finished 17th overall with a 54-hole score of 225. The third-year player opened the tournament with a three-over-par 74 and then shot a 75 in the second round. He closed with a 76 for his final total.
Vitale shot an 81 in the first round and then came back with team-best efforts in the second and third rounds. He shot a one-over-par 72 in the second round and finished with a three-over-par 74 in his final round. His three-round total of 227 left him in a tie for 20th place.
Sophomore Brigham Stewart tied for 31st place with rounds of 80, 74 and 76 (230), while junior Andrew Eiler tied for 52nd place with a 54-hole total of 235 (78-78-79). Freshman Joey Arcuri completed Butler's scoring unit with a three-round total of 255 (79-87-78), which left him tied for 76th place.
The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a team score of 311, before shooting their best total with a 299 in the second round. The Indianapolis squad finished with a 304 for a 54-hole score of 914 and a tie with La Salle.
Christopher Crawford of Drexel claimed medalist honors with a final score of one-under-par 212. He shot a 70 in the opening round, came back with a tournament-best 68 in the second round and then closed with a 74.
The Bulldogs will return home to compete in the Big Four Classic at Crooked Stick Country Club in Carmel on Tuesday, April 8, before heading to the IU Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13.
