Freshman Alex Walker posted a two-under-par 68 and Butler shot a team score of 290 in the first round of the North-South Collegiate golf tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday (March 9). The 36-hole tournament will conclude on Tuesday, March 10.
Walker shot a 37 on the front nine and closed with a 31 for his opening-day total. He stood in a tie for eighth place after the first round. Seniors Kevin Sasena and Elliot Retzlaff and junior Kyle Thomas all shared 39th place with rounds of 74. Sophomore Ryan Wegeng was 67th after the first day with an 80.
Butler freshman Jordan Mack, playing as a non-scoring individual, shot a 72 in the first round and was tied for 25th place.
Florida Gulf Coast grabbed the first round team lead with a score of 267. The Bulldogs stood in eighth place in the 13-team event.
