Freshman Kevin Sasena ignored the winds and cold temperatures at Broadmoor Country Club and carded an even par 72 to help lead host Butler to a third place team finish at the Butler Spring Invitational on Monday, March 20. The 36-hole tournament was reduced to a one-day, 18-hole event due to the inclement weather.

Sasena opened with a 36 on the front nine and then matched that total on the back nine. He finished two strokes behind medalist Joe Young of Cincinnati. The first-year Butler golfer was joined in the Top 10 by teammate Elliot Retzleff, who tied for ninth with a 75 while playing as a non-scoring individual.

Sophomore Michael Amore shot a 76 and finished in a three-way tie for 13th place, along with Aaron Warring of Northwood and teammate Frank Rizzi who was playing as a non-scoring individual. Senior Will Turner tied for 16th with a 77.

Rounding out Butler's scoring team were sophomore Abe Mulvihill, who tied for 18th with a 78, and junior Chris Spitler, who placed 47th with an 86.

Other Butler non-scoring individuals were freshman Graham Summers (79, T-21st), sophomore Clif Cobb (79, T-21st), sophomore Colin Quinn (80, T-29th), senior Trey Server (81, T-36th), sophomore Michael Poteracki (82, T-39th), and junior Justin Kime (85, T-45th).

Cincinnati won the six-team competition with a team score of 300. Indianapolis finished second with a 302, while Butler carded a 303. Temperatures were in the high 30's when play started and hovered in the low 40's for much of the afternoon.
