Junior Will Turner shot an opening round 72 to grab third place in the individual standings and help Butler to a fifth place team spot on the first day of the Butler Spring Invitational, played at Prestwick Country Club on Monday, March 21. Oakland claimed the team lead on the opening day with a score of 299, 17 strokes ahead of the Bulldogs.
Turner ignored temperatures that hovered in the 40's and carded identical nine-hole scores of 36. He'll enter the final round on Tuesday, March 22, two strokes behind co-leaders Jonathon Pauli of Oakland and Mark Sommerfeld of Detroit.
The Bulldogs had three other players finish the first day among the Top 15 individuals. Junior Trey Server shot a 75 to tie for sixth place, while senior Wil Anderson, playing as a non-scoring individual, claimed 11th place with a 76. Sophomore Justin Kime, also playing as a non-scoring individual, is tied for 13th at 78.
Rounding out Butler's scoring team heading into the final round are sophomore Chris Spitler (83), freshman Abe Mulvihill (86) and freshman Colin Quinn (86). Among the non-scoring individuals, freshman David Kleer shot a 79 and freshman Michael Poteracki carded an 81.
