Junior Will Turner posted a 36-hole score of 156 and helped Butler to a fifth place team finish at the Butler Spring Golf Invitational, which concluded at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind., on Wednesday, March 22. Oakland won the team title in the eight-squad tournament.
Turner, who was third after the opening day of competition, slipped to a tie for 11th in the final individual standings after shooting a final round 84 in the cold, wet and windy conditions at Prestwick. He was one of two Bulldogs to place among the top 15 individuals. Senior Wil Anderson, playing as a non-scoring individual, followed his opening round 76 with a final round 80 to match Turner's score.
Junior Trey Server came in 16th with a 36-hole score of 158 (75-83), while sophomore Chris Spitler tied for 27th with a score of 163 (83-80). Rounding out Butler's scoring team were freshman Abe Mulvihill, who tied for 43rd with a 171 (86-85), and freshman Colin Quinn, who placed 47th with a two-day total of 176 (86-90).
Butler had four players compete as non-scoring individuals. Joining Anderson were freshman Michael Poterocki, who tied freshman teammate David Kleer for 32nd place. Poterocki shot rounds of 81 and 84 (165), while Kleer posted scores of 79 and 86. Sophomore Justin Kime finished 38th with a final score of 167 (77-90).
The Bulldogs shot an opening round 316 and then closed with a 332 for a two-day total of 648. Oakland had a winning total of 604, while Detroit finished runner-up at 617. IUPUI finished third with a 622 and UW-Green Bay was fourth at 639. Coming in after Butler were Robert Morris (662), IPFW (670) and Chicago State (686).
