Junior Kyle Thomas turned in a strong final round performance and led the Butler men's golf team to a third place team finish at the nine-team Butler Spring Invitational. The 36-hole tournament at Prestwick Country Club concluded on Tuesday, March 24.
Thomas shot an even-par 72 on the final day, after carding a 76 in the opening round. His two-day total of 148 was good for fourth place in the individual standings, one stroke shy of third place and two strokes shy of first place. Adam Austreng of Green Bay captured medalist honors in a playoff with Michael Lower of Youngstown State.
Freshman Alex Walker finished second for the Bulldogs and tied for 15th overall with a 36-hole score of 155 (78-77). Senior Kevin Sasena tied for 35th with a 159 (80-79), while senior Elliot Retzlaff tied for 44th with a 163 (75-88). Freshman Jordan Mack rounded out Butler's scoring team with a 164 (89-75) and a tie for 46th.
Sophomore Ryan Wegeng led Butler's non-scoring individuals with a two-day score of 156 (80-76) and a tie for 21st place, while freshman Ben Nichele tied for 28th place with a 158 (81-77). Freshman Josh Ruff tied for 42nd place with a 36-hole score of 161 (81-80).
