Junior Kevin Sasena tied for 19 place individually and Butler placed in a tie for ninth in the team competition at the Butler Spring Invitational Golf Tournament. The 10-team meet concluded in cold and windy conditions at Prestwick Country Club on Tuesday (March 25).
Sasena had Butler's best individual score of the tournament with a six-over-par 78 in the opening round of the two-day meet. He carded an 80 in the final round to finish with a 36-hole total of 158. His score placed him in a four-way tie for 19th place.
Freshman Ryan Wegeng tied for 29th for the Bulldogs with rounds of 79 and 81 (160), while sophomore Kyle Thomas tied for 39th with rounds of 84 and 79 (163). Rounding out Butler's scoring team were freshman John Farrelly (81-84 165), who tied for 44th, and sophomore Kevin Swanson (86-86 172), who tied for 56th. Senior Michael Amore (79-86 165), playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for 44th.
Evansville claimed the team title with a two-day score of 609, finishing three strokes ahead of runners-up Cleveland State and Indianapolis. IUPUI (626) came in fourth, followed by Cincinnati (631), Oakland (635), IPFW (635), Green Bay (643), Butler (646) and Robert Morris (646).
