Junior Kyle Thomas captured medalist honors by two strokes and helped lead Butler to a runner-up finish at the Big Four men's golf tournament held at Crooked Stick Country Club in Carmel on Thursday, April 9. DePauw edged the Bulldogs for the tournament crown in the four-team competition.
Thomas shared the tournament-best score on each nine of the 7,159-yard layout at Crooked Stick. He shot a 38 on the front nine and then posted a one-under-par 35 on the back nine. His 18-hole total of 73 left him two strokes ahead of Ronnie Harris of DePauw and Jordan Vice of Wabash.
Sophomore Ryan Wegeng finished second for the Bulldogs and seventh overall with a 79, while senior Elliot Retzlaff placed eighth with an 81. Senior Kevin Sasena and freshman Jordan Mack each tied for 13th with an 84, and freshman Alex Walker, playing as a non-scoring individual, came in 19th with an 87.
DePauw had three players among the top six individuals and
finished with a team score of 313, four better than the Bulldogs.
Wabash came in third, one stroke back, while Hanover finished
fourth with a 349.
