Bulldogs Finish Eighth At Dayton Invitational

Freshman Kevin Sasena carded three rounds of 80 or better to tie for 21st place in the final individual standings and help Butler to an eighth place team finish at the 54-hole Dayton Spring Invitational, which concluded on Monday, April 24. Cleveland State won the 12-team tournament played at Shaker Run in Dayton, Ohio.
Sasena opened the two-day tournament with a 78 and then came back with an 80 during the afternoon round on Sunday, April 23. He closed with another 78 on Monday for a 54-hole total of 236. The first-year Butler golfer carded one of six eagles recorded in the tournament.
Butler sophomore Abe Mulvihill tied for 32nd in the field of 65 golfers with a three-round total of 240. He had Butler's best 18-hole score in the tournament with a 75 in the second round. Freshman Frank Rizzi tied for 46th with a final score of 245, while sophomore Michael Amore finished in 51st place one stroke back. Sophomore Colin Quinn rounded out Butler's top five with a 257, good for 60th place.
Josh Anderson of St. Bonaventure captured individual medalist honors with rounds of 73, 75 and 74 for a two-day total of 222. He finished one stroke ahead of Steve Weir of Cleveland State (75-75-73).
Cleveland State shot a team score of 905 for the three rounds and finished eight strokes ahead of runner-up St. Bonaventure. Butler posted a 966, edging IPFW for eighth place by a single stroke.
