Sophomore Kyle Thomas shot a two-under-par 142 to help Butler to a fourth place team standing after the first day of the Horizon League Men's Golf Championship on Monday (April 28). The final round of the 54-hole league tournament at Shaker Run Golf Course in Lebanon, Ohio, will begin at 8 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday (April 29).
Thomas opened the tournament with a one-under-par 71 in the morning round and stood third after 18 holes. He matched his morning score in the afternoon round and moved into second place in the individual standings, one stroke behind leader Adam Austreng of Green Bay.
Junior Kevin Sasena also turned in two solid rounds with a 74 in the morning and a 72 in the afternoon. He currently stands fifth with a 36-hole total of two-over-par 146. Sophomore Isaac Mulvihill ended the first day in a tie for 15th place with a two-round score of 154 (78-76), while freshman Ryan Wegeng posted a 166 (79-87), good for 34th place. Senior Abe Mulvihill stands 35th with a 171 (86-85).
The Bulldogs shot a team score of 302 in the first round and a 304 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 606. Cleveland State will enter the final round in first place with a score of 593, while Detroit stands second at 596. Youngstown State is third at 599.
