Butler Places Sixth At Horizon League Championship

Butler fell behind in the first round of the Horizon League Golf Championship and wound up placing sixth in the league tournament held at the Green Bay County Club on Monday and Tuesday, April 29-30. Detroit successfully defended its championship in the tournament and earned the Horizon League's bid to the NCAA regionals.
The Bulldogs shot a team score of 318 in the opening round and stood in fifth place after 18 holes. Butler followed with a 320 in the second round and a 322 for the final round to slip one place in the final standings.
Junior Mitch Foss led the Bulldogs with a 54-hole total of 236 to finish in a tie for 13th in the final standings. Foss shot an 80 in the opening round, before rebounding with back-to-back rounds of 78. Also placing among the "Top 15" individuals was junior Jeff Chapman, who tied for 15th with a 237. Chapman posted rounds of 74, 83 and 80.
Wright State's Jesse Hutchins earned medalist honors with a final score of 214. Hutchins carded a tournament-best 67 in the first round and then closed with rounds of 72 and 75. Joining Hutchins on the all-tournament team were Luke LaFave (216) and Johnny Strawser (224) of Detroit, Dave Barse (225) of UW-Green Bay, Jonah Karzmer (228) of Youngstown State, Christian Komsa (231) of Cleveland State and Andrew Lewis (231) of Wright State.
