Butler's Will Turner Shares Horizon League Lead

Senior Will Turner shot a six-under-par 138 on the first day of the Horizon League Men's Golf Championship and grabbed a share of the 36-hole lead in the two-day tournament being held on Monday and Tuesday, May 1-2, at Plum Creek Golf Course in Carmel, Ind. Cleveland State took the lead in the team race, while Butler stood in sixth place after the opening day.

Turner carded a 71 in the first round and then came back with a five-under-par 67 in the second round. His second round score matched the best individual total posted on the first day of the tournament. He'll head into the final round on Tuesday in a first place tie with Mark Sommerfeld of Detroit, who posted back-to-back rounds of 69.

Sophomore Abe Mulvihill is tied for 11th place after the first day with a one-under-par 143 (72-71), while sophomore Michael Amore (78-74) and freshman Kevin Sasena (77-75) are tied for 27th place. Sophomore Michael Poteracki (81-72) is tied for 29th place.

The Bulldogs shot a team score of 298 in the opening round, before coming back with a 284 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 582. Cleveland State posted a 565 on the opening day.
