Will Turner Ties For First At Horizon League Meet

Butler senior Will Turner shot an even par 72 on the final day of competition and wound up tied for first place in the final individual standings at the 2006 Horizon League Men's Golf Championship at Plum Creek Golf Course in Carmel. Butler finished sixth in the seven-team tournament, which concluded on Tuesday (May 2).
Turner entered the final round in a tie for first place, after posting scores of one-under-par 71 and five-under-par 67 on the opening day. His even par final round gave him a 54-hole score of 210 and placed him in a tie for the top spot with Brandon Knutson of Wright State. The two players entered a playoff for medalist honors and Knutson prevailed on the fourth playoff hole.
The runner-up finished gave Turner a spot on Horizon League All-Tournament Team. He was joined by Knutson Sean Bidzinski and Frank Lindquist of Loyola, Nate Komsa of Youngstown State, Mike Rutgers of team champ Cleveland State and Mark Sommerfeld of Detroit.
Butler sophomore Abe Mulvihill finished in a tie for 14th place with rounds of 72, 71 and 76 (219). Freshman Kevin Sasena tied for 27th place with a 54-hole score of 228 (77-75-76), while sophomore Michael Amore came in 33rd with a 232 (78-74-80). Sophomore Michael Poteracki finished 34th at 235 (81-72-82).
Cleveland State edged Youngstown State by five strokes to claim the league title and the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
