Butler Finishes Ninth At Hawkeye Invitational

Junior Chris Spitler led the Bulldogs with an 11-over-par 227 and Butler placed ninth in the final team standings at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Iowa at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11. Western Illinois captured the team crown at the 54-hole tournament.

Spitler posted rounds of two-over-par 74, 76 and 77 to finish 33rd in the final individual standings. He was two strokes ahead of teammate Frank Rizzi, who carded rounds of 75, 76 and 78. Rizzi, a first-year player for the Bulldogs, tied for 35th.

Senior Will Turner shot an opening round 81, but then bounced back with rounds of 75 an 77 to finish 40th. Junior Justin Kime came in 47th with rounds of 84, 77 and 79, while sophomore Michael Amore wound up 51st with a final score of 250 (81-85-84).

Tim Streng of Western Illinois shot an 11-under-par 205 to capture medalist honors. Streng opened the tournament with a seven-under-par 65 and then came back with rounds of 69 and 71.
