Sophomore Kyle Thomas tied for 28th place in the final individual standings and Butler wound up 15th in the team competition at the 2007 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, hosted by Ball State on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17-18. Toledo wound up with the team title in the 54-hole event held at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie.
Thomas shot an opening round 72 on the par 70 layout, and then posted a 74 in the second round. He closed with a 73 for a two-day total of nine-over-par 219. It was the third straight tournament that Thomas either led or shared the team lead in scoring.
Senior Abe Mulvihill and junior Kevin Sasena tied for 52nd in the field with final scores of 225. Mulvihill shot rounds of 77 and 78 in the first two rounds, before closing with a team-best, even-par 70 in the final round. Sasena had rounds of 76, 74 and 75.
Freshman Ryan Wegeng tied for 61st with rounds of 78, 76 and 74, while sophomore Isaac Mulvihill tied for 71st with scores of 75, 77 and 79.
Grant Leaver of Austin Peay captured medalist honors in the 17-team tournament with a final score of four-under-par 206. He shot back-to-back rounds of two-under-par 68 and then finished with an even-par 70.
Butler will compete in the Cleveland State Invitational on Sept. 24-25, before returning home to host the Butler Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 1-2, at Ironwood Golf Course.
