Butler Stands Fourth After First Day Of Butler Invitational

Junior Will Turner shot a three-over-par 145 to grab a "Top 10" individual standing and helped Butler's men's golf squad to a fourth place team standing after the first day of the Butler Fall Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis on Monday, Sept. 20. The 54-hole tournament will conclude with a final 18-hole round on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Turner shot an even-par 71 in the morning round and then came back with a 74 in the afternoon to move into a tie for eighth place in the individual competition. He was one of four Butler individuals in the "Top 20" after 36 holes. Sophomore Chris Spitler stood in a tie for 10th place with rounds of 76 and one-under-par 70, while freshman Abe Mulvihill was tied for 16th with a morning round of 76 and an afternoon round of 71. Sophomore Justin Kime, playing as a non-scoring individual, shared 10th place with rounds of 74 and 72.

Rounding out Butler's five-man scoring squad were freshman Colin Quinn, who posted rounds of 74 and 76, and senior Wil Andersen, who carded rounds of 88 and 78.

IUPUI grabbed the first day lead with a team score of 583, while Cincinnati was second at 585. Oakland will enter the final round in third place with a team score of 586, followed by the Bulldogs at 588. IUPUI's Jeff Moulder is the individual leader with rounds of 74 and six-under-par 66 (140).
