Bulldogs Finish Ninth At Butler Fall Invitational

Sept. 20, 2005

Butler improved by one stroke in the final round but still slipped to ninth place at the rain-shortened Butler Fall Invitational men's golf tournament, held at Eagle Creek Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20. DePaul with an even par 568 won the 13-team tournament.

The Bulldogs shot a team score of 298 on the first day and finished the initial round in a tie for eighth place with Bradley. The first day was cut from 36 holes to 18 holes because of early morning rains. Butler came back in the final round with a 297, but Bradley countered with a 292 and moved up to seventh place.

Junior Justin Kime, playing on Butler's non-scoring white team, had the Bulldogs' best individual performance. He shot a one-under-par 70 on the first day and then closed with a 74 to tie for eighth place. His 70 was the only sub-par round by a Butler golfer in the 36-hole event.

Senior Trey Server paced Butler's scoring blue team with rounds of 74 and one-over-par 72. His two-day total of 146 placed him in a tie for 17th place. Junior Chris Spitler tied for 24th place with rounds of 73 and 74, while freshman Michael Amore tied for 46th (79-72). Rounding out the scoring team were freshman Kevin Sasena (73-80, 54th-tie) and sophomore Abe Mulvihill (78-79, 68th-tie).

Other individuals competing for Butler were sophomore Clif Cobb (76-74, 35th-tie), freshman Frank Rizzi (76-76, 49th-tie), freshman Graham Summers (74-79, 54th-tie), senior Will Turner (78-76, 56th-tie), sophomore Michael Poteracki (80-76, 64th-tie), sophomore Colin Quinn (76-80, 64th-tie) and freshman Elliot Retzlaff (80-77, 68th-tie).

Lee Chaney of Morehead State captured medalist honors with a tournament record, six-under-par 136. Chaney shot identical rounds of 68 in the two day tournament.
