Abe Mulvihill Ties For Fifth At Butler Invitational

Junior Abe Mulvihill carded a one-under-par 71 on the final day of competition and tied for fifth place in the individual race at the Butler Fall Invitational held at Plum Creek Golf Course in Carmel, Ind., on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26. The Bulldogs finished fifth in the five-team tournament.

Mulvihill bounced back from an opening round 80 and finished head-to-head with the top golfers in the tournament. He shot an even-par 72 in the second round before closing with the 71. His one-under-par 143 over the final 36 holes matched Charles Kluesner of Oakland for the best score in the final two rounds.

The Butler leader posted a 54-hole total of 223 and wound up tied with Chad Elliott of Oakland, Tyler Zink of IUPUI, Matt Kouri of Creighton and Todd Glowacki of IUPUI.

Issac Mulvihill, Abe's younger brother, posted Butler's only other Top 20 finish. He carded rounds of 78, 75 and 78 (231) to finish in a tie for 18th place.

Rounding out Butler's scoring team were senior Chris Spitler, who tied for 25th at 235 (74-80-81), and junior Michael Amore, who tied for 30th at 239 (79-78-82). Kyle Thomas was disqualified.

The Bulldogs also had nine golfers playing as non-scoring individuals, led by John Graham Summers (83-77-73 233) and Frank Rizzi (76-78-79 233). Butler's other non-scoring players were Colin Quinn (78-78-79 235), Elliot Retzlaff (75-84-77 236), Justin Kime (85-82-79 246), Michael Poteracki (79-84-83 246), Kevin Sasena (81-80-86 247), Thomas Pechin (85-82-80 247) and Kevin Swanson (90-80-88 248).

Oakland, led by medalist Frank McAuliffe (68-72-73 213), captured the team title with a 54-hole score of 876.
