Bulldogs Place Eighth At Greg Palmer Eagle Classic

Freshman Michael Amore shot an 11-over-par 227 to post the top individual finish for the Butler men's golf team at the Greg Palmer Eagle Classic, hosted by Morehead State University at Eagle Trace Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11. Evansville won the 54-hole tournament, while the Bulldogs placed eighth.
Amore, playing in just his fourth collegiate tournament, carded an opening round 74, before posting a 79 in the second round. He finished with another 74 to tie for 24th in the final individual standings. Freshman Graham Summers tied for 28th with rounds of 74, 78 and 76 for a 12-over-par 228.
Rounding out Butler's five-man squad were junior Justin Kime, sophomore Clif Cobb and junior Chris Spitler. Kime, who shot a 149 on the opening day of the tournament, finished with a 54-hole total of 230 (74-75-81) and tied for 32nd overall, while Cobb posted a final score of 234 (80-78-76) and tied for 42nd. Spitler shot 238 (79-74-85) and tied for 46th.
John Slayton of UT-Martin captured medalist honors with a six-under-par 210. He actually tied his own teammate, Reise Kelly, but was awarded the top spot under a prescribed USGA scorecard playoff system.
