Senior Kevin Sasena shot a season-best 68 in the final round to finish second individually and help Butler to a third place team finish at the IPFW Fall Classic, which wrapped up at Chestnut Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Sasena's finish was the best by a Butler player this fall.
Sasena carded three consecutive sub-par rounds and finished with a 54-hole total of seven-under-par 209, one stroke behind medalist Armando Favela of Loyola. The Butler senior opened the tournament with a two-under-par 70 and then posted a one-under-par 71 in the second round. He finished the first day of competition in a tie with teammate Kyle Thomas for third place in the tournament.
Thomas, who opened the tournament with a 71 and then added a 70 in the second round, finished with an even-par 72 on the final day and wound up in fourth place with a 54-hole score of 213.
Senior Elliot Retzlaff finished in a tie for 18th place with rounds of 74, 79 and 71 (224), while freshman Jordan Mark tied for 24th place with a 54-hole score of 226 (74-76-76). Sophomore John Farrelly wound up tied for 28th place with rounds of 75, 78 and 77 (229).
Freshman Alex Walker, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for sixth with a final score of even-par 216. He shot a 72 in the first round, a one-under-par 71 in the second round and a 73 in the final round. He was playing in just his second collegiate tournament.
Loyola won the team title with a three-round score of 856, 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Green Bay. The Bulldogs, who were in second place after two rounds, finished three strokes behind Green Bay.
