Bulldogs Place Ninth At Dayton Invitational

Oct. 31, 2005

Sophomore Michael Amore tied for third place in the final individual standings and helped Butler to a ninth place team finish at the Dayton Fall Invitational men's golf tournament held at the NCR Country Club South Course on Monday, Oct. 31. Host Dayton won the 12-team meet, while Cincinnati placed runner-up. Butler's "B" team came in 12th.

Amore shot a four-over-par 75 and finished just two strokes off the pace of co-leaders Scott Aker of Cedarville and Justin Wenger of IUPUI. The second-year Butler player carded a 37 on the front nine and finished with a 38. He birdied the par three second hole, the par four 14th hole and the par four 18th hole, while finishing in a tie with Matt Doherty of host Dayton.

Butler freshman Frank Rizzi shot an 82 and tied for 26th with junior teammate Justin Kime, who led the Bulldogs' "B" squad. Junior Chris Spitler tied for 39th with an 85, while senior Will Turner tied for 53rd with an 88. Sophomore Abe Mulvihill, Butler's fifth golfer, shot a 92 and tied with freshman teammate John Graham Summers of the "B" squad for 58th place.

Sophomore Clif Cobb and freshman Kevin Sasena, both playing on Butler's "B" team, tied for 49th place with identical rounds of 87. Sophomore Colin Quinn was disqualified.

The Dayton Fall Invitational was played under the same 7,055-yard set-up that was used when the NCR Country Club South Course hosted the 2005 U. S. Senior Open last summer.
