Junior Will Turner shot a two-over-par 146 and finished in a tie for 11th place in the final individual standings at the Western Carolina University Intercollegiate men's golf tournament which wrapped up on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Cashiers, N.C. Butler placed eighth in the eight-team field.
Turner shot an opening round, one-under-par 71 and then closed with a final round 75 to pace the Bulldogs. He wound up tied with Robert Nuon of Radford and Brian Hogan of Western Carolina. Sophomore Chris Spitler was Butler's second finisher, posting a 36-hole total of 148 (73-75) to tie for 17th place.
Rounding out the Bulldogs' five-man squad were freshman Abe Mulvihill, who tied for 38th place (82-74 156), junior Trey Server, who finished 43rd (80-80 160), and freshman Colin Quinn, who wound up 44th (88-73 161).
Charleston Southern won the team championship with a six-under-par 570, while Radford finished second at even-par 576. Aaron Summers of Radford shot a six-under-par 138 and won medalist honors in a playoff with Keith Tyburski of Western Carolina.
