Golf: Weekly Notes (October 3, 2001)

REST STOP: Butler's men's golf squad, coming off a third place finish at the UW-Green Bay Invitational, will make the first of two consecutive trips to Illinois when it visits Bradley University to play in the Bradley Fall Classic. The tournament is slated for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9, at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. Butler will be back in Illinois a week later to participate in the Eastern Illinois Ironhorse Invitational.
NORTHERN GOLF: Butler made the long trek to northern Wisconsin to compete in the UW-Green Bay Invitational and came away with a third place team finish. The Bulldogs stood second with a score of 577 (293-284) after the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament, but slipped to third after shooting a 305 in the final round. Northern Iowa won the tournament, while Indian Hills College was second. Junior Mitch Foss (Dunlap, Ill.) tied for third in the final individual standings with a score of even-par 216. Foss shot a four-under-par 68 in the opening round and then finished with rounds of 73 and 75. Sophomore Colin Christie (Indianapolis) placed seventh in the final individual standings with rounds of 75, 67 and 77, while sophomore Jonathan Novak tied for eighth with scores of 72, 73 and 75.
LEAGUE HONOR: Sophomore Colin Christie was named "Golf Athlete of the Week" by the Horizon League for his performance at the Ball State Invitational and the Butler Fall Invitational. Christie was extremely consistent through six rounds of golf in four days. He shot rounds of 70, 72 and 74 at Ball State to tie for 14th in the final individual standings, and then followed with rounds of 74, 73 and 73 at the Butler Invitational to tie for ninth place.
