Ben Weaver Named Horizon League Coach of the Year

Bulldogs' head coach Ben Weaver was named "Coach of the Year' and Butler sophomore Colin Christie was one of seven players named to the 2002 All-Horizon League Golf Team selected by a vote of league golf coaches. The honor squad was released at the 2002 Horizon League Golf Championship post-tournament banquet.

Weaver, a former Butler golf most valuable player and current assistant professional at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Indianapolis, is closing out his fourth season as Butler's head coach. This past season, he guided the Bulldogs to four "Top Three" tournament finishes, including a championship at the Indianapolis Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Detroit Titan Invitational.

Weaver is the first Butler coach since Don Benbow in 1998 to be named conference "Coach of the Year."

Christie was Butler's leading scorer heading into the conference tournament with a 74.1 average. He had 15 rounds of 75 or better in the fall and turned in four "Top 10" individual tournament finishes. His shot his best single round of 67 at the UW-Green Bay Invitational and posted a tie for fourth place at the Indianapolis Invitational.

John Schones II of Wright State was named Horizon League "Player of the Year" and Kevin Kasprzyk of UW-Green Bay was tabbed league "Newcomer of the Year." Joining Christie on the all-conference team were Schones, Christian Komsa of Cleveland State, Brian Berggren of UW-Green Bay, Jesse Hutchins of Wright State and Adam Walicki and Johnny Strawser, both of Detroit.
