NEW HAVEN, CT. - Sophomore Kyle Tietjen's three goals and two assists helped guide the Butler lacrosse team to a 12-4 victory over Quinnipiac on Wednesday morning on the campus of Yale University. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 3-2 overall, while the Bobcats drop to 1-4 on the season.

The Bobcats tallied the lone goal in the first quarter, as Chip Schmidt assisted Josh Murray at 5:47 to put Quinnipiac ahead 1-0. But, Butler regrouped quickly, scoring all four goals in the second stanza to take a 4-1 halftime lead.

Tietjen got Butler on the board first in the third quarter, scoring an unassisted goal at 13:33. The Bobcats countered with a goal just 28 seconds later, to pull within 5-2, but Anthony Crimmins, Alan Eberstein and Tietjen each scored over the next 11-minute span to give the Bulldogs an 8-2 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Quinnipiac's Andy Pelletier scored off an Eric Trama assist with 14:31 remaining, but the Bulldogs would again string together four straight goals to take a sizable lead. Pelletier, who finished with three goals, concluded the Bobcats' scoring with 23 seconds left to play, but Butler walked away with the non-conference victory.

"I am really pleased with our performance today," said head coach Craig Kahoun. "We had several young guys step it up for us on both the offensive and defensive ends. Kyle certainly led off offensively, while Brendan Winkler played a tremendous game for us in the goal."

Eight different players scored for Butler on the day. In addition to Tietjen's three goals and two assists, Crimmins (2g, 1a), Nick Wilbur (2g), Lawrence O'Toole (1g, 1a), Eberstein (1g, 1a), Dan Torgersen (1g), Rich Pavlick (1g) and Doug Mathias (1g) each got on the board. Ryan Ward led all players with three helpers.

Butler held a 44-40 shot advantage over the Bobcats. Winkler posted 21 saves against 37 shots, while his counterparts, T.J. Barnett and Joe Prota, combined for 15 saves.

Butler will travel to Fairfield, Conn. on Saturday (Mar. 15) to face Sacred Heart in a non-conference battle at noon. This is the Bulldogs' first-ever meeting against the Pioneers.
