May 9, 2005
Former Bulldog Chris McKay will play in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Champion's Cup Final for the Arizona Sting this Saturday (May 14). The game against the Toronto Rock will be broadcast on NBC at 3:30 ET (2:30 in Indianapolis). McKay scored 12 points in 13 regular-season contests for the Sting after graduating from Butler in 2004.
The Western Division Champion Sting pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback, scoring five goals in the final five minutes, April 30 to upset defending champion Calgary, 19-15, and advance to their first-ever Champion's Cup Final.
The tryouts, which are open to the public, will be held from June 13-16 at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and 23 players will be selected from those tryouts to represent the United States at the International Lacrosse Federation World Championships in July 2006 in London, Ontario.
Duke earned the tournament's No. 2 seed (behind Johns Hopkins). Towson, where Butler coach Stan Ross was the top assistant from 1998-2004, was awarded the No. 7 seed. Hind, the first coach of the Butler lacrosse program, will spend much of the month of May traveling to tournament sites, including the semifinals and championship, May 28 and 30 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
