  • US Lacrosse has announced the 120 players that have been invited to try out for the 2006 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team. Among those invited is former Butler standout Mike Regan, who currently suits up for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse. The players were invited to participate by the 2006 U.S. Team Men's Player Selection Committee and were selected from a field of approximately 200 applicants.

The tryouts, which are open to the public, will be held from June 13-16 at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and 23 players will be selected from those tryouts to represent the United States at the International Lacrosse Federation World Championships in July 2006 in London, Ontario.

  • The Division I NCAA Men's Lacrosse Committee, chaired by Butler associate athletic director Jon Hind, announced the field for its championship tournament Sunday in Indianapolis. The 16-team field includes two opponents from Butler's 2005 schedule. Butler posted a 1-1 record against the tournament field. The Bulldogs defeated Great Western Lacrosse League champion Fairfield, 12-11 in overtime, April 29. Butler lost at Duke, 12-8, in the team's season opener. Marist, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion, and Butler were scheduled to play March 12, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather in New York.

Duke earned the tournament's No. 2 seed (behind Johns Hopkins). Towson, where Butler coach Stan Ross was the top assistant from 1998-2004, was awarded the No. 7 seed. Hind, the first coach of the Butler lacrosse program, will spend much of the month of May traveling to tournament sites, including the semifinals and championship, May 28 and 30 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

  • Butler assistant coach Danny Cocchi has returned to the roster of the Baltimore Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse. The team opened training camp April 30. The team's first game is slated for May 28 against the New Jersey Pride.
