Butler Unveils 2007 Lacrosse Schedule

Nov. 3, 2006

Three matches against opponents who advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament and four regular season contests in Indianapolis highlight Butler's 2007 lacrosse schedule. The Bulldogs will play a 12-game schedule, including six contests in the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL).

Butler third-year head coach Stan Ross will see his team tested right at the start of the season when he takes the team to Baltimore, Md., to play UMBC on Feb. 17. The Retrievers posted a 10-5 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Butler will be facing UMBC for the first time since 1994.

Also on Butler's schedule from last year's NCAA Tournament are GWLL foes Notre Dame and Denver. The Bulldogs will visit Notre Dame on April 7 and then travel to Denver on April 20. Notre Dame finished with a 10-5 record last year, while Denver was 12-5.

Five of Butler's first six matches will be played on the road. In addition to the UMBC contest, the Bulldogs will visit Towson on March 3, Sienna on March 11, Drexel on March 14 and Delaware on March 17. Butler's final road match of the season will be at Air Force on April 22.

Butler will play the first of four regular season home games on Feb. 24 against Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights will be making their first appearance at the Butler Bowl. The Bulldogs also will host league foes Bellarmine on March 28, Ohio State on April 14 and Quinnipiac on April 28. The Quinnipiac game will be Butler's final regular season contest.

The Bulldogs will begin spring play with a pair of exhibition matches at home. Butler will host Denison on Feb. 4 and then face both Ohio Wesleyan and Mercyhurst on Feb. 10.
