Julian Cardona Named To Puerto Rico U21 National Team
Butler forward Julian Cardona has been selected
to the Puerto Rico U21 National Team Pool. The first-year
Butler player will compete with Puerto Rico in the Central American
and Caribbean Games this July in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Cardona, the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, was Butler’s second-leading scorer in 2009 with six goals and three assists. He led the Horizon League in game-winning goals (4), and he finished sixth in the league in scoring (15 points). The former Shattuck-St. Mary’s High School player saw action in all 19 Butler matches last fall, including 11 as a starter, and he was named to the 2009 All-Freshman Team by College Soccer News.
The Central American and Caribbean Games are a multi-sport regional championship held every four years. The games are for teams from Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda, Surinam, Guyana, Columbia and Venezuela.
