Brett Heinz Named Horizon League Player of the Week
Butler junior Brett Heinz, who helped the
Bulldogs defeat Big East team DePaul, has been named Horizon League
Player of the Week for the period Oct. 19-25. He’s the
second Butler player honored with the league’s weekly award
this season.
Heinz had a pair of assists in Butler’s 3-1 non-league
victory over the Blue Demons, who entered the match with a No. 18
rating in the RPI. With the Bulldogs trailing, 1-0, early in
the match, he served a pass into the box, and teammate Jacob Capito
knocked it into the net to tie the score. Seventeen minutes
later, Heinz sent a long pass to teammate Julian Cardona, who
finished the play with a header for the eventual game-winner.
The two assists were the first of the season for Heinz, a native of
Leawood, Kansas. He also turned in another solid performance
at the defensive end of the field, helping the Bulldogs blank
DePaul over the final 88 minutes!
Heinz picked up his first Player of the Week award. Earlier
this month, teammate Boris Gatzky was honored by the league after
helping Butler to wins over #14 Indiana and Valparaiso.
Butler, 10-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Horizon League, will try to
extend a four-match winning streak and a seven-match unbeaten
streak when it hosts league foe Detroit on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
That match was originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, but had
to be postponed due to illness affecting the Detroit squad.
The two league teams will meet in the Butler Bowl at 4 p.m. (ET).
