Conner Burt Named To Academic All-America Team
Butler junior defender Conner Burt, who
has excelled on the field and in the classroom, has been named
first team on the 2009 ESPN The Magazine University Division
Academic All-America Team, chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports
Information Directors of America). He was one of 12 players
selected to the national honor squad.
Burt has started all 18 matches for the 14-2-2 Bulldogs, helping
Butler to a national ranking, a Horizon League regular season
championship and a berth in the NCAA Men’s Soccer
Championship. He’s been a key performer on a defensive
unit that has Butler ranked in the “Top 10” in the NCAA
Division I in goals against average (0.59). The Bulldogs have
allowed just 11 goals in 18 matches.
And the Butler junior has been equally impressive in the classroom,
boasting a 3.97 grade point average as a marketing major. He
was named to the Horizon League Academic All-League Team in 2008,
and he was picked to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V Team this
fall.
Butler will begin play in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship
on Sunday, Nov. 22. The Bulldogs, seeded 12th in the
championship, will face the winner of the Indiana-Louisville first
round match.
