Bulldogs Defeat Dayton In Exhibition Match
DAYTON, OHIO -- Senior Kyle Pateros gave Butler the lead midway
through the first period and the Bulldogs added a goal late in the
match to defeat host Dayton, 2-0, in an exhibition men’s
soccer match at Baujan Field on Friday night. The match was
Butler’s first test of the 2010 campaign.
Pateros notched his goal in the 31st minute with senior Brett
Heinz picking up an assist on the tally. It proved to be the
game-winner.
Senior Michael Clayton took a centering pass from senior Dustin
Mares and added Butler’s second and final goal late in the
contest to close out the scoring. The match was played under
modified rules with one 45-minute period, followed by two 30-minute
periods.
Head coach Kelly Findley, entering his fifth season with the
Bulldogs, used goalkeepers Fabian Knopfler, Jon Dawson and Andy
Holte in the shutout effort.
The Bulldogs, coming off a championship in the Horizon League and
an NCAA Tournament appearance, will play a home exhibition match
against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, August 24. That match is
scheduled to start at 5 p.m. in the Butler Bowl.
BULLDOG BITS: Junior defender Matt Hedges,
the reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year, was named
to the preseason All-America Team by College Soccer News.
Hedges also made the 2010 PDL All-League Team, honoring the best 11
players from this summer’s Premier Development League.
