Ben Sippola Named Horizon League Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler senior Ben Sippola, who helped lead
the Bulldogs to a team title at the Wildcat Invitational in
Lexington, Ky., has been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer
Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 6.
Sippola, who was the leading scorer in the Kentucky-hosted
tournament, helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back victories over
Houston Baptist and Loyola Marymount. He earned
All-Tournament recognition after scoring four goals and adding an
assist in the two wins.
In the Bulldogs’ opening round victory over Houston Baptist,
Sippola became just the ninth player in Butler men’s soccer
history to record a “hat trick.” He scored
Butler’s first, second and fourth goals in a 5-1
victory. Two days later, he picked up an assist on the
Bulldogs’ initial score and then tallied the team’s
final goal in a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Loyola
Marymount.
Sippola, who leads the Horizon League in scoring with 11 points on
the season, also was named Goal.com national Player of the
Week.
Butler, 4-0, will return to action with a non-league match at
Oakland on Saturday, Oct. 18.
