Matt Hedges Named Horizon League Co-Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler junior Matt
Hedges, who helped the #17-ranked Bulldogs to back-to-back
wins in Wisconsin, has been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer
Co-Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 20. The Butler
defender shared the league’s weekly honor with Eric Nock of
Loyola.
Hedges tallied game-winning goals in each of Butler’s wins on
the two-match trip to Wisconsin. He had the second goal in
Butler’s 2-1 victory at Green Bay, while helping limit the
Phoenix to just two shots in the match. The reigning Horizon
League Defensive Player of the Year then nailed the first goal in
the Bulldogs’ 2-0 win two days later at Milwaukee, while
helping the Bulldogs record their fourth shutout of the season.
The two goals in two matches gave Hedges four on the season,
including three game-winners. He’s currently second on
the team in scoring with nine points.
Hedges’ performance for the Bulldogs in Wisconsin further
earned him National Player of the Week honors from
TopDrawerSoccer.com, and he was named to the College Soccer News
National Team of the Week.
Nock helped Loyola to Horizon League wins over Detroit and
Cleveland State in the Ramblers’ two matches last week.
He recorded his first career hat trick in Loyola’s 3-0
victory over Cleveland State.
Butler, 7-0, will begin a four-match homestand with a league
contest against Valparaiso on Friday, Oct. 1. The match at
the Butler Bowl will start at 4 p.m. (ET).
