Unbeaten Bulldogs To Host Evansville
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler, unbeaten and untied in eight
matches this season, will step out of Horizon League play to host
state rival Evansville on Tuesday, Oct. 5. The non-league
match at the Butler Bowl is slated to start at 4 p.m. (ET).
The Bulldogs, ranked #14 in last week’s NSCAA national poll,
are the last remaining unbeaten, untied team in the NCAA Division
I. Four other teams - Akron, Louisville, Connecticut and
Brown - are unbeaten, but each has at least one tie. SMU,
which lost for the first time last weekend, leads the nation with
nine wins, while Butler is tied with UC Irvine for second with
eight victories.
Butler is 8-0-0 for the first time since 1990 and for just the
second time in school history. The Bulldogs defeated Horizon
League foe Valparaiso, 1-0 in double overtime, on Friday (Oct. 1)
in their last outing. Evansville, 4-4-1, is returning to
action for the first time since Sept. 29, when the Aces dropped a
1-0 decision at Indiana.
The Bulldogs will return to Horizon League play with a home match
against UIC on Saturday, Oct. 9.
