Bellarmine Goalkeeper Transfers To Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Matt Soyka, the starting goalkeeper at Bellarmine University last fall, has transferred to Butler.  The 6-1, 170-pound junior will have to sit out this season, but will be eligible for the 2012 campaign.

Soyka started 16 of 17 matches for Bellarmine last season, and he helped the Knights to a 10-5-2 record and a No. 18 national ranking, the highest national standing in school history.  He had 48 saves and six shutouts on the year, and he set a school record with a 0.80 goals against average.

Soyka, who began his collegiate career at the University of St. Thomas, was a four-year varsity letterwinner and a three-time team captain on the boys soccer team at J. I. Case High School in Racine, Wis.  He earned All-Conference and All-County honors for two straight years, and he was a two-time all-tournament pick and a tournament MVP at the Racine Invitational.  He played on the Wisconsin ODP State team for three years (2006-08), competed on the Brookfield SC U19 regional squad and was a member of the Racine Spartans in the State League.
