Austin Oldham Named League Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler sophomore Austin Oldham, who helped
the Bulldogs to a championship at the Dayton Marriott Classic, has
been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Week,
for the period Sept. 5-11. The league honor is the first for
the Butler forward.
Oldham scored seven points in Butler’s two matches at Dayton
and was named the Offensive MVP of the four-team tournament.
He was one of four Butler players named to the All-Tournament Team
at the conclusion of the event. The second-year player
contributed to four of Butler’s five goals in victories over
Western Illinois, 3-2, and Houston Baptist, 2-1.
In the tournament opener against Western Illinois, Oldham tied the
match at 2-2 with his first goal late in the second half.
Three minutes later, he picked up an assist on Adam Glanzer’s
game-winner in the 82nd minute. Oldham had a team-high three
shots in the match, including two shots on goal.
Two days later, Oldham scored both goals in Butler’s
title-clinching win over Houston Baptist. He gave Butler the
early lead with a goal just three minutes into the match, and then
he nailed the game-winner in the 65th minute. He finished the
match with four shots, including three shots on goal.
Oldham has taken over the Horizon League lead in scoring with a
league-high five goals and an assist through five matches.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, with a
