Oldham, Steinberger Earn All-League Recognition
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler scoring leaders Austin Oldham (right) and Zach Steinberger have been named to the 2011 All-Horizon League Men's Soccer Team, selected by league coaches. Oldham was chosen first team All-League, while Steinberger was named to the second team.
The two Butler players were among 22 athletes named first or second team All-Horizon League. Green Bay's Tony Walls was named Horizon League Player of the Year, Wright State's Craig Feehan was chosen league Newcomer of the Year and Valparaiso coach Mike Avery was tabbed as league Coach of the Year. Other top awards went to Ivan Stanisavljevic of UIC, who was named Offensive Player of the Year, Stefan Antonijevic of Valparaiso, who was selected league Defensive Player of the Year, and Kyle Zobeck of Valparaiso, who was chosen league Goalkeeper of the Year.
Oldham, a sophomore forward from Greenwood, led the Bulldogs in scoring with seven goals and four assists. The second-year player also topped Butler in shots (45) and shots on goal (20), and he tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (2).
Steinberger (left), who also was named to the league All-Newcomer team, led the Bulldogs in assists with five and added four goals in his first season. The freshman from San Diego, Calif., was second on the team in shots on goal (14) and fourth on the squad in total shots (21).
The All-Horizon League first team included Oldham, Walls, Antonijevic, Stanisavljevic, Zobeck, Admir Suljevic of Cleveland State, Aaron Adkins of Cleveland State, Bryce Rockwell-Ashton of Wright State, Eric Frazier of UIC, Manual Conde of Cleveland State and Brian Cothern of Wright State.
Making up the second team were Steinberger, Stuart Grable of Green Bay, Robert Refai of Milwaukee, Wei Ming-Wong of Valparaiso, Jonathon Smith of Valparaiso, Andrew Stone of Green Bay, Aslinn Rodas of Cleveland State, Guy Shabtay of Valparaiso, Paul Tracy of UIC, James Howe of Loyola and Brad Stuver of Cleveland State.
Named to the league All-Newcomer squad were Steinberger, Feehan, Justin Laird of Wright State, Mike Derezic of Cleveland State, Eric Nieto of Valparaiso, Kirby Allen of Green Bay, Gustav Svensson of Wright State, Brian Bement of Loyola, Zav Taublieb of Valparaiso, Jesus Torres of UIC and Gerardo Saavedra of Milwaukee.
