Butler Ties League-Leading Temple
Junior Jordan Burt

AMBLER, PA. -- Butler rallied from a 3-0 deficit with three clutch goals in the final 15 minutes to tie league-leading Temple, 3-3, in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at the Ambler Sports Complex on Friday (Oct. 19).  The contest was the first half of a two-match trip to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Bulldogs.

Temple (7-4-3, 3-0-2) looked to be well on its way to it's fourth A-10 victory through three-quarters of the match.  Cody Calafiore and Jared Martinelli combined to give the Owls a 1-0 lead just over 35 minutes into the match, and the two paired up again 15 minutes into the second half to make it 2-0.

The Owls appeared to have put things out of reach when Chas Wilson scored off a pass from Calafiore to make it 3-0 with just over 15 minutes remaining in the contest!

But the Bulldogs (3-6-5, 1-3-1 A-10) were just getting started.  Sophomore Zach Steinberger took a pass from junior Austin Oldham and found the back of the net from inside the box just 29 seconds after Temple's third goal to make it 3-1.

Less than six minutes later, freshman Jeff Adkins scored Butler's second goal off of a pass from junior Adam Glanzer.

Junior Jordan Burt then nailed the equalizer at 85:41 off an assist from Steinberger.  Butler's three-goal flurry came in less than 11 minutes!

The two teams battled through two overtime periods, before settling for the deadlock.

Butler goalkeeper Jon Dawson had five saves after halftime and finished the match with seven stops.  Temple's Bobby Rosato racked up six saves.

The Owls finished with a 23-18 advantage in shote, including a 5-2 edge in the two overtime periods.  Adkins led Butler with five total shots, including three shots on goal.  Steinberger had three shots, two of which were on target.

The three goals by Butler were the most scored by an A-10 foe against the Owls this season.

Butler will finish its weekend stay in Philadelphia with a match against Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Oct. 21.  That contest is slated to start at 1 p.m. (ET).
