Bulldogs Fall At Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO. --Host Saint Louis solidified its spot in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship with a 4-0 victory over Butler in the final regular season match for both teams at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on Sunday (Nov. 4).  The loss left Butler with a final season record of 5-8-5 and a final conference mark of 3-5-1.

The Billikens (13-4, 7-2 A-10), ranked No. 17 by Soccer America, grabbed the lead with a pair of goals in the final four minutes of the first half.  Kingsley Bryce notched the game-winner at 41:26 with his fourth goal of the season, and Robbie Kristo added his ninth goal of the season less than a minute later.

The host squad, which earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, picked up insurance goals from Alex Sweetin and Adnan Gabeljic in the second half.

Butler had numerous opportunities in the contest, but couldn't get a shot past Saint Louis goalkeepers Nick Shackelford and Dillon Saffle.  Shackleford finished with four saves, while Saffle had one.  Both teams finished with 13 shots.

Sophomore Zach Steinberger had a team-high four shots for the Bulldogs, while junior Adam Glanzer added a pair of shots, both on goal.  Juniors Austin Oldham and Blake Leyden and freshman Jeff Adkins also had shots on goal for Butler.

Junior goalkeeper Jon Dawson finished with seven saves in the match.

Charlotte claimed the A-10 regular season title and will be the No. 1 seed when the conference tournament begins at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 8.  Saint Louis is the No. 2 seed, while two-time defending champ Xavier is seeded third.  Rounding out the eight team field is No. 4 VCU, No. 5 Temple, No. 6 Dayton, No. 7 La Salle and No. 8 Duquesne.

Butler tied for ninth in the final league standings.
