Zach Steinberger Named Butler Men’s Soccer Captain
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Zach Steinberger has been selected as the third team captain for the Butler men's soccer team. The gifted midfielder joins current team captains Jordan Burt and Brandon Fricke in the team leadership role.
"Zach is a very talented individual who is driven to achieve great things both on the field and in the classroom," said Butler men's soccer coach Paul Snape. "Over the last two years, he has matured into a selfless leader who puts the welfare of his own teammates above his own. The added responsibility of being a captain will inspire Zach to push himself and the team beyond perceived limits."
"Zach will join Jordan and Brandon as team captains. Their special dedication to the game of soccer and to their teammates will elevate the program to another level. I expect them to set the bar high in terms of professionalism and performance standards. The Butler men's soccer program is incredibly lucky to have three captains as talented, committed and passionate as these three," continued the Butler coach.
Steinberger, who hails from San Diego, Calif., has been Butler's second-leading scorer for two consecutive seasons. He was named second team Atlantic 10 All-Conference a year ago, after earning second team All-Horizon League honors in his rookie season. He was an All-Tournament pick at the Akron Tournament a year ago and at the Dayton Marriott Classic in 2011.
Burt, Fricke and Steinberger will lead the Bulldogs at the four-team Northern Illinois Tournament, Sept. 13 & 15. Butler will face host Northern Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m. (ET) and then take on #24 Northwestern at noon on Sunday.
