NEW YORK, N.Y. - Butler freshman Anthony Smith Jr. was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week this week for his performance against No. 7 Louisville Saturday night. Smith scored the only goal of the game in the 44th minute. He was able to take a pass from sophomore Vincent Mitchell and tuck the ball in the left corner of the goal. The score was Smith's first collegiate game-winning goal.
"He came off the bench and provided a lot of energy," head coach Paul Snape said. "He's shown a lot of potential all year and great for him to score his first goal of the season."
Junior goalkeeper Andy Holte was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after his performance in-goal against the Cardinals. Holte held Louisville scoreless in his first start of the season and made four saves. He notched his first career shut-out.
"Andy stepped into the lineup and did his job very well," Snape said. "To get a shut-out against a top ten team like Louisville is tremendous. It proves that we have a very strong goalkeeping unit that we can count on at any time."
The Bulldogs take the pitch tonight at 7 p.m. against Houston Baptist at the Butler Bowl.
