Conner Burt Named To Academic All-America Team
Butler junior defender Conner Burt, who has excelled on the field and in the classroom, has been named first team on the 2009 ESPN The Magazine University Division Academic All-America Team, chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). He was one of 12 players selected to the national honor squad.

Butler Earns No. 12 Seed In NCAA Soccer Championship
Butler’s successful men’s soccer season will continue. The Bulldogs received the No. 12 seed and a first-round bye in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship, which begins at host sites on Thursday, Nov. 19. The 48-team field was announced on Monday, Nov. 16.

Goalkeeper Ryan Wehking stopped three penalty kicks to lift Green Bay past Butler in the 2009 Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship match at the Butler Bowl on Sunday, Nov. 15. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie through two overtime periods, setting up the first penalty kick situation in Horizon League championship match history.

Junior Ben Sippola broke a scoreless deadlock early in the second half and senior Boris Gatzky added the eventual game-winner less than four minutes later to lift No. 1 seed Butler to a 2-1 victory over No. 4 seed Cleveland State in the second semifinal match of the 2009 Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship at the Butler Bowl.

Top-seeded Butler will return to action for the first time since clinching the league regular season championship when it hosts No. 4 seed Cleveland State in the semifinals of the 2009 Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 13. The match will be the second semifinal contest at the Butler Bowl and will start at approximately 2:30 p.m. (ET).

Butler’s success during the regular season translated into a strong showing on the 2009 Horizon League Men’s Soccer All-League Team, released on Tueday, Nov 10. The league champion Bullodgs placed eight players on the honor squad, and Butler captured three of the league’s top six individual awards, chosen by a vote of conference coaches.

Bulldogs Capture Horizon League Championship
Junior Ben Sippola nailed the game-winner midway through the second half and senior Boris Gatzky added an insurance goal 17 minutes later to lead Butler to a 3-1 men’s soccer victory over Wright State at the Butler Bowl on Saturday (Nov. 7). The victory clinched the Horizon League regular season championship for the Bulldogs and made Butler the No. 1 seed and host of the league tournament, Nov. 13 & 15.

Bulldogs Pull Out Victory At UIC
Freshman Julian Cardona scored the lone goal of the match with less than 14 minutes remaining to lift Butler to a 1-0 victory over host UIC in a key Horizon League match at Flames Field in Chicago, Ill., on Wednesday (Nov. 4). The victory moved the Bulldogs one step closer to clinching their first league regular season title since 2004.
