Louisville Slips Past Butler, 2-1

Louisville scored twice in less than a minute and held on to defeat Butler, 2-1, in the first match of the UK Invitational at the UK Soccer Complex in Lexington, Ky., on Friday, Sept. 19. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-2-1 on the season, while Louisville improved to 4-3.
The two squad battled to a scoreless tie for more than 80 minutes, before Simon Bird broke the deadlock and gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 83rd minute of the match. Less than a minute later, Ian Quatrocchi added what would prove to be the game-winner for Louisville.
Butler scored its lone goal of the match in the 89th minute when junior Andrew Pancio slipped a pass to freshman Jamie Gordon, who beat Louisville goalkeeper Brad Sokolowski with a shot to the back of the net. It was Gordon's first collegiate goal.
The Cardinals had a 9-4 advantage in shots in the match, though the Bulldogs had a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
Butler will continue play in the UK Invitational with a match against host Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2:30 p.m.
