Indianapolis - Four different Bulldogs scored, including three new faces in Butler's 4-0 win over cross-town rival IUPUI on Tuesday in Indianapolis. The win improves Butler to 9-2-2 overall and drops IUPUI to 6-5-2 on the season.
After coming off a huge win over nationally ranked UIC Saturday, the Bulldogs started the game off with physical play and confident ball movement. Junior Boris Gatzky scored his second goal of the season on a shot from the top of the eighteen yard box off an assist from Senior Frank Patano in the 14th minute. It was all Butler from then on. Three Bulldogs scored their first goals of the season with Senior Eduardo Garcia finding the back of the net in the 31st minute off a ball from Patano.
Just six minutes later Freshman Ben Kissick scored off a corner kick played by Sophomore Michael Clayton to Freshman Matt Hedges and back across the goal. Kissick touched the ball by the IUPUI goalkeeper from six yards out.
Butler did not hesitate to find more chances on offense, and struck again when Sophomore Jacob Capito was fouled inside the box and set up a penalty kick for Senior Joe Wienman. Weinman connected on the kick making the score 4-0.
Coach Kelly Findley shared his thoughts about mid season non-conference games saying, "These wins will help us toward the end of the season when it comes to NCAA tournament time. Any win will help us."
The win keeps the Bulldogs at the top of the Horizon League standings. They travel to Wright State on October 18th to take on the Raiders, and are back at home on the 21st to play Eastern Illinois.
