Michael Ferguson scored with just over 18 minutes remaining in the match to lift host Loyola to a 1-0 victory over Butler in a Horizon League match in Chicago on Sunday, Oct. 14. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 4-6-4 overall and 1-2-2 in Horizon League play, while Loyola improved to 7-3-3 on the year and 1-2-2 in the League.
The two teams battled to a scoreless deadlock for more than 70 minutes, before Ferguson, the league's leading scorer, tallied his league-best 12th goal of the season at 72:14. It was the first goal surrendered by the Bulldogs in three matches.
Loyola held the shooting advantage 7-6 over Butler on the night but the Bulldogs had a 5-3 corner kick edge.
Fabian Knopfler recorded two more saves in his 90 minutes of work in goal for Butler, raising his season total to 51 saves.
The Bulldogs will look to get a much-needed win on Friday as they continue with Horizon League action against Cleveland State at 7 p.m.
