Butler picked up a big Horizon League road win on Friday night as the Bulldogs beat the Vikings of Cleveland State 2-1 at Krenzler Field. The win raised Butler's overall record to 5-6-4 and 2-2-2 in conference matches.
Cleveland State was held in check by Butler's defense until late in the first half when the Vikings struck for their first score of the night almost 43 minutes into the match.
Butler's offense struck again in the second half when Frank Patano scored his seventh goal of the year to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Pateros assisted Patano's goal that came at the 59:41 mark.
Fabian Knopfler started in goal for the third straight game for Butler and saved five shots on the night. Knopfler has allowed just two goals in his last three starts for the Bulldogs.
Boris Gatzky and Patano each had two shots on the night to lead the Bulldogs who were out-shot 11-9 in Friday's contest.
Butler continues conference play this weekend when it heads back home for its second to last home match of the regular season when the Bulldogs take on Detroit at the Butler Bowl on Sunday at 1 p.m.
