Butler Ends Regular Season With 2-0 Win At IUPUI
Oct. 30, 2003
Junior Andrew Pancio scored two goals in the second to lead visiting Butler to a 2-0 non-league victory over IUPUI at the Michael Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on Thursday night (Oct. 30). The win in Butler's final regular season match lifted the Bulldogs to 10-6-3, while IUPUI fell to 2-13-3.
Pancio broke a scoreless deadlock five minutes into the second half with a shot to the far post after taking a pass from teammate David Wyrick. It was Pancio's fifth goal of the season, while Wyrick picked up his fourth assist.
The two Butler players hooked up again 30 minutes later for the final goal of the match. Wyrick served the ball to Pancio, who beat IUPUI goalkeeper Drew Deffner with a shot.
Butler out-shot the Jaguars, 13-11, in the match. The Bulldogs had a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Evan Reinhardt had two saves in the contest, while recording his seventh shutout of the season. He moved into a tie for second place with Ben Anderson, 1998, on Butler's single season list for shutouts.
The Bulldogs, who cancelled their final regular season match against Oral Roberts due to a scheduling conflict, will take a five-match winning streak into the Horizon League Tournament on Nov. 9. Butler will host a first round tournament match at Varsity Field.
